Monitor and control data usage on an Android phone

While many data plans are advertised as “unlimited” these days, the highest cut-off point is actually when your data stream is slow.

How to Monitor and control limit of data usage on an Android phone

Suppose you do not want to pay the premium prices that demand an “unlimited” plan.
In that case, it is even more important that you avoid going beyond your maximum data limit, or there will be higher penalties to pay. Either way, it’s necessary to monitor your data flow – not only to make sure you don’t cross your limits but also to find out if you need to rethink your current data plan is required.

This is very easy to do using current versions of Android or tools with third-party apps. Here are some strategies you can try. (Note: These instructions are for a Pixel XL running on Android. Your phone’s interface varies somewhat depending on the manufacturer, model, and OS version.)

Set a data limit

If you exceed your data limit before the end of your monthly billing cycle, you can warn your phone. You can also set a limit beyond which your phone will not use any data.

Go to Settings

Go to “Network and Internet”> “Data usage”> “Data warning and limits.”
Tap on “Application data usage cycle.” This will allow you to set the day when your account starts its monthly cycle.
Back up and turn on “Set data alert.” You can then set the data limit – 4GB – that you want for your phone.
On the same page, you can turn on “Set data limit.” This process will completely shut down your mobile data when it hits any limit you set.

Use data mode

If you have Android 8.0 version or later, your phone should be equipped with data saver mode, which kicks in when not on Wi-Fi and ensures that apps and services that are actively used, Not being done, will not be able to stream data in the background process.

It is very easy to set data saver mode on and off.

Go to Settings

Go to “Network and Internet”> “Data Usage.”
Choose “Data Saver.” Toggle to “Use Data Saver.”
There may be specific applications that you want to allow to use background data even when you are in data saver mode. For example, you want to get Twitter notifications no matter where you are.

First, Go to the “Data Saver” page (see above)
Tap on “Unrestricted data.”
Scroll to all the apps that you want to enable to use background data even when you are in data saver mode. Toggle them over.

Use a data management application.

Although Data Saver can help you manage which apps are allowed to work in the background, you want more detailed control of your data. In that case, Google’s Data, My Data Manager, or many available data management apps can help the app.

For example, it will not only automatically stop apps from working in the background. It will also allow you to set daily data limits and mode at bedtime. Creating emergency storage of data (cases In the month when you move towards the low end) and monitor the hot spot usage (which, as I know of my regrets, can destroy the data allowance of one month a month).

My data manager

Another popular app for data management is My Data Manager, which tracks data usage for single and multiple devices, arranges alerts, checks data usage during family planning (so you’ll know that month’s data allowance 75 percent), and monitors consumption. You can find out whether you should switch to a different plan.

The advantage of these data management apps is that you can consider them as set-and-forget tools, allowing them to do their work in the background or rotate them continuously to meet your needs. Either way, you and your data plan – are the winners.
